Today I was in the hospital visiting a relative, and a woman walked into the ER wearing my caregiver business card. I was not sure if she was just being friendly, or if she had heard of my business. She asked me what my business was and what my clientele is. I told her I do care and that all my clients are seniors.
Caregiving is a hard job. While many companies offer high-paying jobs to caring for the elderly, it’s a lot of work and sometimes you need to spend your days traveling. There’s also the added stress of dealing with the elderly who have no one to take care of them.
The most stressful part of caring for an elderly client, and the one I think has been most misunderstood, is dealing with the feelings of being abandoned by your loved ones. You don’t see your loved ones for weeks or months on end, sometimes even years. You feel like you’ve lost them, yet you’re sure they’re in another city or even the afterlife. It can be very isolating and lonely, so when you receive a letter from them, it can be a very lonely time.
The idea of caregiver business cards actually came from the desire to make it easier for you to be more comfortable with the idea of feeling alone. When you receive a letter from a loved one, the first thing you do is make a mental note of their last name, and then write out a card that you take with you. You can also take a photo of your loved one, and put it on the card.
This is sort of silly for most people because the idea of taking care of someone else is a bit of a pain. But I think we can all agree that the idea of being able to take care of someone is something that most people find quite difficult. And so we have caregiver business cards.
I was really surprised to find out that, in fact, a caregiver business card is not such a thing after all. You can find these on Amazon for about $3 or so. While it makes a great gift, I think it can be a good idea for anyone who wants to be able to take care of a loved one for a little while.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how many people use caregiver business cards for this purpose. There are a lot of people who would be interested in having somebody call them to go and take care of someone who is ill, and a lot of people who would pay to have a caregiver come and help a friend or relative who is sick. While this is not ideal, it is not a bad way to go about it.
A few weeks ago, on our radio show, I introduced the concept of a “caregiver business card”. These business cards help you get in touch with people who would like to help you with your loved one’s care. The idea is that a caregiver will visit your house and take care of whatever you need, no matter how inconvenient it is. These service providers can be either doctors, nurses, or friends or family.
The most obvious thing that a caregiver can do is to send them an email. The main challenge here is that you can’t really call them out for providing you with such a service unless you already have a business card. You have to use some sort of ID in the email.
The problem is that there are some people that just cannot stand the idea that you have to use your real business card to give them service. I know that I am one of those people and I have a business card that I hand out and it always makes me feel like a fraud. But that’s also the reason why I don’t really use this service; I feel like I am abusing the system. So I decided to put my business cards online for all to see.
