I think its because they don’t want to be perceived as being like brothers. When I first started freelancing, I was concerned that people would think I was being a “bossy” person, but that’s not the case in most cases. I’m a big believer in the “I’m a boss” mentality, but I try to keep that in check as much as possible.
This is a perfect example of the difference between a boss and a peer (or a friend). A boss sees things a certain way and expects things from others, while a friend will talk to you and ask you questions that you probably wouldn’t see from a boss.
A boss will expect you to do certain things and expect you to always do them. That’s pretty natural. A boss will also expect you to do things that are not the best. That’s totally fine. But a peer who will ask you questions that you wouldnt see from a boss that you should be doing is a friend.
A peer is someone who you’re not supposed to do things with, someone you’re not supposed to talk to, someone who you can’t trust. A boss is someone who you’re supposed to talk to, someone you are trusted with.
Bosses are the face that you put over a group of people, the person who says “we are here to do the job, and we are going to do it well.” They are the people who are trusted to be doing the job. They are the people who are told to do what they are meant to do, and theyre right to do it because theyve got the best skill in the group.
